Privacy policy
Breadcrumbs is a private friendship journal. This policy explains what the app and website process. Questions and privacy requests can be sent to hello@breadcrumbs.life.
Journal and iCloud
Entries, people, tags, chats, recaps, photos, derived search data, and AI usage history are stored on your device and in your iCloud account when iCloud sync is available. Breadcrumbs does not operate an account database containing your journal. Apple processes the synchronized copy under your iCloud account and Apple's terms.
Optional AI
If you add your own Mistral API key and approve AI processing, the relevant entry text, chat messages, and people details needed for an AI feature are sent directly to Mistral AI, a French AI provider. It processes that material under your Mistral account and terms and bills your account. Read Mistral AI’s privacy policy. AI may produce incorrect results.
The API key is stored only in this device's Keychain. It is not synchronized through iCloud, included in backups, or sent to Breadcrumbs. Removing it stops new AI requests but does not delete journal data, existing chats, recaps, search data, or usage history.
Diagnostics and usage statistics
Release builds use Sentry for crash and app-hang diagnostics. Breadcrumbs removes journal content, names, free-form text, account identity, requests, screenshots, and interaction trails before sending a report. Reports retain technical information needed to diagnose stability, such as the app build, operating system, hardware class, and executable stack.
Optional usage statistics are sent to TelemetryDeck only after you grant separate consent. They contain allowlisted app and device facts and usage counters, never journal text or names. Turning this off stops the channel and deletes its local install identifier.
Website
The public website is hosted by Vercel and uses Vercel Analytics and Speed Insights for aggregate traffic and performance data. Like any web host, Vercel receives technical request data such as an IP address, browser details, and the requested page.
Retention, deletion, and rights
You control journal retention through the app and your iCloud account. Deleting app content removes it from the local store and the synchronized CloudKit records. Third-party processors retain their limited operational data under their own terms and configured retention periods. You may ask for access, correction, deletion, restriction, or a copy of personal data Breadcrumbs controls, and may withdraw optional consent at any time, by contacting the address above.
